THE FUTURE BEGINS YESTERDAY – OUR CHILDREN ARE THE FUTURE.
The youngest among us live in a world of inner and outer images. For them, dreams, wishes, fears and imaginative play are just as real as reality itself. Children possess a natural curiosity and an innate ability to explore the world with all their senses and to look beyond the surface of things. They are open to the new and the unfamiliar, practise critical thinking, master communication strategies and have ideas in abundance.
We want to inspire and encourage our young visitors to approach contemporary art through their own unique perceptions. In doing so, our programme builds on children's innate need for holistic learning and their joy in creative expression. This universal curiosity is inherent in all children, regardless of their social, cultural and intellectual backgrounds.
OSTRALCHEN
Guided tours
This child-friendly guided tour for our youngest visitors showcases selected artworks that are suitable for this age group. Special educational activities help children to discover and experience the treasures of the exhibition, bringing them to life. The young participants learn interesting facts about the artists themselves, the themes of the works and how they were created. They are invited to share their thoughts and feelings with us and to contribute their own perspectives. It is always an adventure to explore the world from very different perspectives.
Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour
Recommended age: 3–9 years
These tours can be booked for private groups of children with 2 accompanying adults, up to a maximum of 20 people, by prior arrangement for €100.00.
Public workshop
Studio of Things
In the 'Studio of Things' – an open-plan, inspiring space within the exhibition area – children can explore their individual creative potential through experimentation.
What does red smell like, or what does paper sound like? How does canvas feel? How does glue behave? What do I need to paint a picture? This is where action and creativity come into play! Inspired by the original works in the exhibition, young participants can create their own pieces, experiment and, in doing so, engage more closely with art. The OSTRALE "Studio of Things" can be used independently during opening hours.
What colour is your mood? (Workshop 1)
You can tell what mood the colours are in: sometimes they keep a low profile, filling a triangle neatly and evenly. But sometimes they lose their temper and splash and smear cheekily across the canvas. In the workshop, you get to decide how the colours behave in your picture.
