Performance "What I am" in the robotron-Kantine
Sat. Sept 30th: 5 – 7 pm
Sun. Oct 1st: 11am – 7 pm
Policyholder, staff member, tenant, student, artist, dad, darling, sweetie, loser, asshole, nutcase, entrepreneur, organizer, participant, citizen – these are just some of the names the artist has been called or insulted and cajoled with. In 2011, he began collecting the words he's been labelled with, and in 2017, he started tattooing them on his arm. Puncturing them into his own skin can be read both as a replication of the label and as an acceptance of the injury or caress it implies. "Hell is other people," as the saying goes, but they can also be heaven. Indeed, who would we be without others? As of early 2021, the artist has tattooed 500 of the 1000 names he's amassed. He continues to collect and to ink. (Valie Djordjević, Translation: Andrea Scrima)
Since autumn 2020, the artist has been giving up his legal name as part of the project "untitled (untitled)".
This performance already took place at the opening of the OSTRALE Biennale O23. Now the audience can witness again when the artist tattoos the next words on his arm.
