BACH IN THE CITY
To mark the 275th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach's death, his works will be performed in major cultural institutions throughout the city throughout the year. We are bringing Bach to life through a musical intervention in various locations throughout the city, performed by artists from Dresden's independent music scene in original, cross-genre, or adapted versions. This will by no means be a dry, backward-looking history of music: as in the past, Bach's works and corresponding contemporary pieces will serve to stimulate intellectual dialogue and bring people together.
NEVER GREY
This year's OSTRALE Biennale intervention refers to the experiences of people imprisoned by the Stasi in the GDR as well as to the architectural remains of the Stasi district administration in the memorial. Through contemporary interactions, this history is retold, sometimes enhancing or sharpening its depths and other perspectives. We have exclusively given artists from this year's biennial a voice through their works. With their selection, our two curators and art historians, Drorit Gur Arie and Veronika Krülle Kotoucova, seek answers to the pressing questions that arise in view of global parallels.
